Clay Hair Studio is a co-working space and salon on the high street of the up-and-coming Birmingham suburb of Stirchley, famed for its string of independent businesses. The studio offers a bespoke, intimate and unique experience for guests; all services are carried out on a one-on-one basis and never, ever rushed.

At the heart of the brand are two key principles; sustainability and inclusivity. In practice, this means Clay Hair Studio offers gender-free pricing, and always use cruelty-free haircare and naturally-derived colour. The-site also doubles as a co-working space where everybody is welcome.

The name and vibe of the space was born from a conversation between the founders, Pamela Cooney and partner Connor Doyle. During this moment, they were admiring some weathered terracotta plant pots, which in turn inspired the natural, raw aesthetic of the space.

The salon features minimalist decor and natural textures, with plenty of flowers and foliage. Clay Hair Studio achieved the stripped-back look by opting for polished plaster walls to give the space an unrefined look. The furniture is largely up-cycled; take for example the repurposed scaffolding board which is now used for shelving. The salon also used raw sapele wood as a divider between the different areas of the space and the backwash area to break the room up for a unique and rustic space.
